Commission considers address for property on minimum-maintenance road, signals ordinance tweak

County staff said the county typically does not issue addresses on minimum-maintenance or low-volume roads because limited upkeep can impede emergency response and because address assignment triggers review for floodplain compliance, driveway access and solid-waste service. Roger Denton presented the GIS information related to the parcel and access constraints.
Mount Pleasant Township agreed to extend road maintenance by 25 feet to allow a driveway and enable an address assignment, and commissioners indicated they were willing to amend the county’s measurement for maintenance distance (discussed change from 475 feet to 500 feet) to accommodate the request, provided the required legal paperwork is completed.
A motion was made and seconded to allow issuance of the address once the necessary documentation is provided. The minutes do not record a roll-call vote for that motion or list a mover and seconder; the record states only that the motion was made and seconded. The county clerk’s minutes note that agenda and consent items were approved 2-0 earlier in the meeting.
Next steps: staff and the county counselor will prepare the documentation and any ordinance language needed to implement the maintenance-distance adjustment before final action.
