Sachem updates parents on new bus app and says driver recruitment is ongoing

At the June 17 meeting administrators updated the board on transportation preparations for summer and fall and the planned parent communication about a bus-tracking app.
"We met with Beacon Mobility about the parent app... and there's going to be something going out," said Michelle, who described using ParentSquare for rollout instructions and noted the district is consulting other districts on ease of use. She reported in-district SESSY routes are completed and drivers will pick routes on June 25; out-of-district routes were due to be completed during the week.
Board member Rob asked whether the district had posted positions or recruited additional bus drivers for September. Mr. Rakus said there is a posting and one additional driver was onboarded for summer school; he noted the district remains down drivers due to retirements and workers’ compensation leaves but said contractors "have been able to recruit" additional drivers and he would confirm details with them.
Administrators said weekly meetings continue and promised a transportation update at the next meeting. The board did not take formal action during the update.
The transportation discussion included an operational timeline and a commitment to provide a further update when route assignments and recruitment confirmations are finalized.
