Town issues winter-safety reminders and outlines heating, child-care assistance

A staff member urged residents to limit time outdoors during winter weather, keep pets indoors and check that carbon monoxide detectors are working before using alternative heating sources. "Check on neighbors who are elderly or who need extra assistance," the staff member said, and recommended keeping emergency kits and extra warm clothing in vehicles.

The staff member said the town offers help for residents who qualify for heating assistance. Those approved for fuel assistance through the South Shore Community Action Council may be eligible for extra support from the Dennis fuel assistance program. Applicants must meet income guidelines and provide recent proof of residence; appointments are handled by Julie Benoit. "The program is open to all ages," the staff member added and directed residents to links in the written report.

The update also noted several state programs related to heat assistance and provided guidance on how residents can find and apply for those resources. For residents who want regular project information, the staff member said wastewater project updates are posted weekly on the town website and subscribers receive an email blast with a two-week and three-week look-ahead.
