The Dennis Historical Commission received an update Jan. 5 on a 15‑week exhibit at the Cape Cod Museum of Art tied to the 250th anniversary and on plans for a May 16 dedication of a town memorial.
Tim Scannell, representing tourism efforts, described the exhibit that will run from April through mid‑July and include talks and displays about local patriots and artifacts. The museum will host the digital event listings, and the commission committed to coordinating local program entries, signage and a reception tied to the exhibit opening.
Diane Rochelle summarized logistics for the May 16 dedication: the memorial plaque is cast and on hand, a tentative program will include brief remarks by Jonathan Lane and representatives of the Sons and Daughters of the American Revolution, and the dedication is scheduled for 3:00–4:30 p.m. The commission also noted the need to coordinate police and DPW for traffic, parking and crowd management.
Laura Sandre of the Dennis Chamber of Commerce told the commission the Museum offered a quarter‑page ad for $1,205 and a half‑page for $2,225 (two quarter pages cost $1,002 each in an alternate pricing note); the museum’s advertising deadline requires a decision by Jan. 26. Commissioners discussed possible contributions from the commission and tourism budget but said any town spending would require select‑board approval.
Members agreed to publish a consolidated events page linking to the museum’s digital listings, to avoid duplication across town and regional sites, and to identify who on the commission will handle introductions and speaking roles. The commission also confirmed that exhibition materials and lists will be shared with town websites and that staff will follow up with the Museum, police and DPW to finalize logistics.
Next steps: Diane Rochelle will provide the commission’s event list to the museum; staff will contact police and DPW after division‑head signoffs; the commission will decide on advertising participation by the Jan. 26 deadline.
