Board defers CRI staffing audit, asks administration to issue RFQ; refers cyberbullying policies to policy committee

Board member Mr. Piaza introduced the idea of an independent staffing audit and invited Amy Verbine, an audit partner with CRI, to present a proposal at the June 16 meeting. Verbine described CRI's experience with similar engagements, estimated the engagement could run from July through October, and said the initial scope would focus on central-office staffing (approximately 100 central-office positions) with interviews of an estimated 30—60 people depending on departmental structure. She described the fee estimate as preliminary and hours-based.

Several board members asked whether the district had first attempted internal staffing reviews and whether an outside, nonbiased review would be preferable. Board members also discussed whether the district should solicit multiple vendors through a formal RFQ/RFP process and whether the item should remain on the current agenda. Following discussion the board withdrew the motion to execute a contract that night, instructed administration to issue an RFQ/RFP for the staffing audit, and agreed to place the item on the next agenda for a formal recommendation.

Separately, the board referred two policies addressing bullying/hazing and online conduct (JCDAFF and JDG in the packet) to the policy committee for drafting stronger disciplinary tools for administrators to address cyberbullying.
