School board approves $3.8M sewer cooperative to consolidate treatment plants

The Tangipahoa Parish School Board on June 16 approved a cooperative endeavor agreement with Tangipahoa Parish Sewer District One to consolidate two school sewer-treatment plants and move flows into the Green Acres Regional Wastewater Plant.
Board members were told the school system's portion of the project would be $274,000 and the sewer district's portion $726,000 toward a total project cost reported as $3.8 million. The agreement will close and consolidate treatment at Hammond East Side Lower and Hammond High School into the regional plant, removing the district from direct operation of those treatment facilities.
The motion to authorize the superintendent to execute the cooperative endeavor agreement passed unanimously. Board members noted a separate sewer issue at Hammond East Side Upper had been discussed with a private owner and is considered resolved in regular communications, not as part of this agreement.
Administration will proceed with execution of the agreement and coordination with the sewer district and the regional plant.
