Rico Madama, chair of the existing Climate and Coastal Resiliency Committee, said the group has recruited professionals and volunteers to serve as a clearinghouse for residents’ questions and to support town departments. Public commenters urged the committee prioritize community education, review the Cape Cod Commission’s model coastal resiliency bylaw, and examine contingency planning given anticipated FEMA staffing changes.
Select Board members discussed whether to merge alternative‑energy work into the charge; the board retained the Alternative Energy Advisory Committee as a separate body for now but approved a name and draft charge that allow cross‑committee collaboration. The board voted unanimously to approve the draft charge and the new name 'Energy and Climate Resiliency and Sustainability Committee.'
Board members and staff said the change is intended to help the town implement its hazard mitigation plan, seek grant opportunities, and coordinate on the master plan updates and MVP (Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness) grants.
