Trustees approve updated fire and EMS fee schedule to offset rising costs

Trustee Hilly said the village must raise fees for fire and emergency medical services to keep up with rising operational and equipment costs and to maintain modern medical devices. “These increases are necessary because… the cost of acquiring new technology for the medical devices we need are astronomical. We're talking 3 to 5% increase per year,” Hilly said.
The board debated whether the changes should be implemented by resolution or ordinance. Officials agreed to place the updated fee schedule on the next meeting’s agenda and to have staff prepare a resolution if no prior ordinance requires a different process. After a motion to approve the fee schedule and draft the implementing resolution, trustees took a roll-call vote and approved the motion.
Clerk roll call recorded affirmative votes from Trustee Hilly, Trustee Crowley, Trustee Burbette (as recorded), Trustee Jud, Trustee Johnson, and Trustee Kley. The board directed staff to finalize paperwork and return a formal resolution (or the ordinance language if required) at the next meeting.
The vote carries the change into the implementation phase; trustees said the increase aims to maintain service quality and keep pace with reimbursement and equipment costs. The board did not publish a dollar-by-dollar fee table during the meeting; the fee schedule document will accompany the implementing resolution when presented at the next session.
