Tiburon Town Council authorized staff to advertise construction bids for the final Bair play area design after the consultant presented a cost‑sensitive 90% plan incorporating neighborhood input.
Carlile Macy associate principal Briana Morrison said the design balances stakeholder feedback and emphasizes ADA access, a looped pathway, a larger recreational lawn and low‑maintenance native planting. "We are pleased to offer a design to you today that we think strikes a balance between the various stakeholder feedback and direction we've received," Morrison said.
The 60% cost estimate previously presented was about $688,000. Through value engineering—reducing planting sizes, changing a boulder retaining feature to modular concrete units, narrowing the loop path from 6 to 4 feet and other adjustments—staff trimmed the estimate by roughly $88,000 while retaining the design’s intent. The project team also recommended a porous, permeable pathway material to maintain accessibility and low maintenance.
Council members praised the thorough outreach and asked staff to include donor‑recognition options during procurement. The council authorized the town manager to advertise the project, with bids expected in July and construction anticipated to start in September and complete before year end.
Next steps: staff will publish bidding documents and return to council to award the construction contract after bid opening.
