Barren County Fiscal Court approves USDA grant application, vendor invoices and multiple routine claims

At its June 16 meeting the Barren County Fiscal Court approved a series of routine and programmatic actions, including a resolution to apply for a 2026 USDA Rural Business Development Grant for grain elevator site development and multiple vendor invoice payments.
On motions and seconds recorded on the floor, the court took the following actions: it approved the USDA grant application for the grain elevator (mover Gross, seconder Kinslow), approved minutes from its June 2 meeting (mover Durham, seconder Gross), adopted the first reading of Ordinance No. 705 (administration code amendment) and scheduled a second reading, authorized the Judge Executive to sign a lease renewal for the Austin Boat Ramp at Barren River Lake (mover Pettigo, seconder Kumer), accepted Thomas Oil's bid to supply fuel for the road department for the coming year, and approved numerous vendor invoices and claims (software management, cloud permit system, audit payment, annual commitments, sidewalk final bill, Glasgow Water Company, HARP Enterprises) by voice votes.
The court also confirmed several board and commission appointments — including Amy Shipley to the library board and reappointments to tourism and other boards — and appointed Bethany Steamberen as the citizen representative to a newly formed opioid committee; magistrates Tim Durham and Marty Kinslow were named to that committee, which will meet in July to develop an application process and distribute funds in the fall.
