The Carlisle City Council on May 26 discussed draft job descriptions for the City Clerk and Finance Manager but chose to table both items for further review.
City Administrator Deven Markley presented revisions intended to align the City Clerk with administrative responsibilities and the Finance Manager with financial duties; he said he had consulted Becky Reif with Ahlers about potential changes to physical-requirement language. Councilmembers requested comparative examples from other cities and asked for revised language to be circulated before the next meeting.
A motion by Beth Sauter, seconded by Tracey McAvoy, to table the City Clerk job-description resolution carried 5-0 (SEG 023). A separate motion by Andrya Carter, seconded by Sauter, to table the Finance Manager job-description resolution also carried 5-0 (SEG 024). Council asked staff to provide three comparator job descriptions and to solicit input from department heads before bringing the items back.
Why it matters: the job descriptions define recruitment, hiring and performance expectations; council members flagged language and sought greater transparency before formal approval.
Next steps: staff will update the drafts, collect comparator examples, and distribute revised descriptions for council feedback ahead of a future meeting.
