The Yarmouth Commission on Disability discussed plans to distribute the "Unexpected Friendship" coloring book to elementary school students during its March 4, 2026 meeting.
Gail Charette reported she received a printing estimate from Cape Tech of $0.85 per book, with no minimum order. Commissioners debated whether to provide classroom sets, supply copies to all second graders this year, or distribute to second- and third-graders this year and then limit annual distribution to second-graders going forward.
Commissioners noted there are approximately 159 second graders, 174 third graders and 127 first graders who will enter second grade next year. Sarah O'Reitty, the town's director of human resources and staff liaison, said she would check the commission's donations account for available funds and circulate relevant budget information. The commission agreed to place a funding decision and formal vote on the April agenda.
No formal funding action was taken at the March meeting. The item will return in April with a staff-circulated cost summary and a recommended distribution plan.
