The county administrator explained the change as a shift from shorter work periods to longer ones: certified law enforcement will move to 12‑hour shifts on a 28‑day work period with overtime paid after 171 hours in that period; firefighters will move to a 12‑24 shift schedule on a 28‑day work period with overtime paid after 212 hours.
The administrator framed the change as an update to how overtime is calculated under state and federal rules for certain shift schedules. Council had no additional questions on the floor and voted to adopt the resolution.
The council’s adoption updates payroll calculations for covered employees; staff implementation steps and any required payroll adjustments will follow under county personnel processes.
