The Shiawassee County Board of Commissioners on June 17 adopted Resolution No. 26-06-12 to establish a revised Building and Trade Fee Schedule, effective July 1, 2026.
The resolution cites the county’s authority under the Stille-DeRossett-Hale Single State Construction Code Act (Public Act 230 of 1972) and assigns administration to the Shiawassee County Building and Trade Department. The adopted schedule replaces existing building, electrical, mechanical and plumbing fee tables for areas of the county where the county enforces the state construction code and sets fees for permit applications, inspections, plan review (6.25% of the permit fee, minimum $200), contractor registration (no fee) and a $200 investigative/administrative fee for starting work without a permit. The schedule also describes fee computation rules (ICC valuation basis) and inspection pricing (standard inspection $70; additional time billed at $65 per 30-minute increment).
Commissioner Brad Howard moved approval and Commissioner Cindy Garber seconded; the motion carried with the vote recorded in the minutes. The resolution text was entered into the record at the meeting.
County officials did not provide an itemized estimate of the revenue expected from the fee changes at the meeting; the resolution records administrative rationale and specific per-unit fees, including $65 application fees, $70 inspection fees and detailed tables for electrical, mechanical and plumbing permit charges.
