Broken Bow EMS reports record 502 calls in 2024; new ambulance due late May or early June

Emergency Services Director David Baltz reported to the Broken Bow City Council on March 11 that emergency medical services set a department record in 2024 and are preparing additional capacity.
Baltz said the department handled 502 calls in 2024, representing 3,496 service-call man hours. He provided a breakdown of call types: about 78% were 911 calls, 14% were transports, 6% were standbys and 2% were ALS intercepts. He said the roster currently lists seven paramedics, four advanced EMTs and 21 EMTs. During the first two months of 2025 the department responded to 106 service calls, he said.
Baltz told the council the department expects a new ambulance to arrive in late May or early June. He also said three people from the department are enrolled at Central Community College to become paramedics. Mayor Rod Sonnichsen commended the department for its work.
No formal council action on EMS staffing or capital purchases was recorded at the meeting; the report was received for the public record.
