Broken Bow council appoints and swears in Cody Neville as police officer

Mayor Rod Sonnichsen called a special meeting of the Broken Bow City Council to order at 12:01 p.m. on Jan. 31, 2025, where the council voted to appoint Cody Neville as a Broken Bow police officer and Police Chief Steve Scott administered the oath of office.
Captain Anderson introduced Neville, saying Neville is originally from Cairo, Neb., moved to Broken Bow with his wife and four children, and has worked with Anderson on the Volunteer Fire Department for about three years. "Cody is known for being a good family-man who is trustworthy and always willing to help," Captain Anderson said.
Councilmember Russ Smith moved to approve the appointment, Councilmember Travis Kleeb seconded, and the council adopted the motion by roll call vote with Smith, Kleeb and Paul Holland voting aye and no nays recorded. Following the vote, Police Chief Steve Scott administered the Police Officer Oath to Cody Neville.
There were no public comments recorded. During mayor and council remarks, Councilmembers Smith and Holland offered congratulations to Officer Neville. Mayor Sonnichsen said Officer Neville is "joining a strong team" and thanked those involved. The council then approved a motion to adjourn at 12:07 p.m.
The meeting record notes that notice of the meeting was posted in three public places and that the availability of the Open Meetings Act was announced at the start of the session. No other council business or votes were recorded in the minutes for this special session.
