Broken Bow council approves conditional use permit for firearm/archery sales and rezones lot to commercial highway

The Broken Bow City Council on Jan. 28 approved two land‑use items recommended by the Planning Commission: a conditional use permit to allow commercial firearm and archery sales at 704 S. 8th Ave and a zoning reclassification of Sargents 3rd Addition Block 1 Lot 3 from residential multi‑family to commercial highway.

Deputy Clerk Jacob Holcomb told the council the conditional use permit carried the Planning Commission's recommendation and that he had contacted Custer Christian’s school board and principal to make them aware of the proposed business activity; he said no concerns were reported. The council closed the public hearing and approved the permit on a 4‑0 vote (moved by Russ Smith, seconded by Joe Wamsley).

The council then opened and closed a separate public hearing on rezoning Sargents 3rd Addition Block 1 Lot 3, which Holcomb said had previously housed a nursing home and is now being used for commercial purposes. With the Planning Commission’s recommendation, the council approved changing the lot’s zoning classification to commercial highway by a 4‑0 vote (moved by Travis Kleeb, seconded by Russ Smith).

Both votes were roll calls recorded as voting aye: Russ Smith, Travis Kleeb, Joe Wamsley and Paul Holland; nays: none. No members of the public spoke in opposition at either hearing.

The actions follow the council’s routine review process, which included Planning Commission referrals and public hearings. The council did not attach special conditions to either approval in the meeting record.
