Beardstown council approves City Hall painting, repairs and vehicle purchase; mayor asks that hotel liquor‑license request be placed on next agenda

BEARDSTOWN, Ill. — The Beardstown City Council approved several routine contracts and purchases at its Feb. 3 meeting, and Mayor Tim Harris asked that a newly remodeled hotel’s liquor‑license application be added to the next meeting agenda.
The council accepted a bid from Turner Painting and Construction for $11,925 to paint City Hall after a motion by Alderperson Dawn Seward, seconded by Davis; the motion passed 6-0 with recorded yea votes for Shawn Taylor, Dawn Seward, Ron Culves, Eric Harbin, Keith Schramm and Davis. The motion language recorded in the minutes was: "That the reading of the minutes from the meeting held January 6th, 2026 be dispensed with, that the minutes be approved with the correction of Eric Harbin making a motion." (The minutes approval was handled earlier in the meeting and recorded as passed unanimously by voice vote.)
The council also approved a Beardstown E & M bid of $6,222.79 for pipe repairs to the Beardstown Fire Station. Eric Harbin moved the measure, seconded by Shawn Taylor; the vote passed with five yeas and one abstention (Taylor, Culves, Harbin, Schramm and Davis voted yes; Dawn Seward abstained). Two members were recorded absent from the meeting.
Separately, the council voted 6-0 to enter an agreement with Benton and Associates for engineering services related to lead service lines. The motion was made by Seward and seconded by Harbin.
The city also accepted a bid from Morrow Brothers Ford for a 2026 Ford F‑550 priced at $105,869, a purchase approved on a 6-0 vote after Seward’s motion and Harbin’s second.
Mayor Tim Harris noted that a newly remodeled hotel in town intends to apply for a liquor license. Harris said police had been called only once since the property changed ownership and asked that the application be placed on the next council agenda for consideration.
There were no public comments recorded at the meeting. The council adjourned at 7:12 p.m. on a motion by Eric Harbin, seconded by Dawn Seward.
