Council OKs cooperative contract with Rush Truck Centers for fleet services

The Denton City Council approved on June 16 a procurement authorization for Fleet Services to use a cooperative purchasing contract with Rush Truck Centers for heavy equipment purchases, repairs and maintenance. Nicole Brasher, Fleet Services administration manager, explained the contract supports departments including Solid Waste, Streets, Wastewater and Water Utilities and that the city will only pay for services rendered or for vehicles when acquisitions are budgeted.
The recommended agreement is a one‑year contract with up to four annual extensions under the BuyBoard cooperative purchasing network, and staff presented a five‑year not‑to‑exceed projection of $14,679,000 to cover routine procurement and repair needs. Council moved and seconded the authorization and the measure passed 6–0 on the roll call vote.
Staff said acquisitions will proceed through the city’s budgeting process and that the contract imposes no immediate obligation to spend the full ceiling; purchases will be routed through departmental budgets as needed.
