Council approves public-works and training-center contracts; engineers’ estimates under budget

Marion City Council voted June 18 to accept low bids and approve project calendars for two municipal contracts.
Mike, a city staff representative, described final site improvements at the new Public Works facility on 44th Street—removal of topsoil piles, regrading detention basins and landscaping—and said Roachi Construction was the low bidder at $319,689. The contract amount represented 58.5% of the engineers’ estimate; staff recommended moving forward and council approved resolutions 32912–32913 to accept the bid and include the project on the calendar.
For the public safety training center electrical package, Scott reported that the electrical portion was rebid separately after the initial combined package received no bids. Justice Electric submitted the low bid at $73,390 with a proposed late start of Sept. 4, 2026 and 30 working days to complete; staff recommended proceeding and council approved resolutions 32914–32915.
Councilors confirmed for the record that the bids were below the budgeted/engineers’ estimates and approved the contracts by voice vote. Both projects proceed to contracting and scheduling under the stipulated start/completion dates in the bid documents.
