Committee hears emergency sewer-fund appropriations; wastewater expansion reimbursements expected

At the June 17 Finance Committee meeting, Miss Stefford asked the committee to approve appropriation increases in the sewer fund to cover an HVAC replacement (about $14,000) for a sewer-plant building and repairs to a Vaccon/Freightliner sewer department truck (estimated about $25,000). "Those two items ... we didn't have money appropriated in the current budget as it stood, so we needed to add some additional funds there," Stefford said.
Members asked where the HVAC unit was located and whether it was part of the wastewater treatment-plant expansion; staff clarified the HVAC is for a separate sewer-plant building that houses electrical equipment. The truck repairs prompted discussion about fleet-value context; councilors noted city sewer trucks can cost well over $150,000 and one speaker referenced a purchase price in the mid six figures.
Stefford also discussed broader sewer-fund financing tied to the city’s wastewater treatment-plant expansion. The committee was told the budget assumes about $12.5 million in OWDA-funded contractor work this year; staff said the city had received an initial $30,000 reimbursement related to Accenture payments and expects additional OWDA reimbursements as the project advances.
No formal vote on the expansion financing was taken at the meeting. Staff said they would follow up with any required documentation and that the appropriation request for the two sewer-fund maintenance items is on the agenda for formal action elsewhere on the docket.
