Plaquemines council votes to terminate Chief Legal Officer after investigation finds inappropriate comments

The Plaquemines Parish Council voted on June 11 to terminate the employment of Jacob Lee as Chief Legal Officer for the Plaquemines Port, Harbor & Terminal District effective 11:59 p.m. on June 15, 2026.
Resolution No. 26-211, introduced and moved by Commissioner Tyronne Edwards and seconded by Commissioner Mitch Jurisich, states that an investigation into multiple work-related complaints revealed instances of inappropriate comments made in the workplace that were attributed to and admitted by Mr. Lee. The council determined termination was in the best interests of the Port. The resolution was adopted by roll call: Commissioners Newsom, Edwards, Champagne, Schulz, McCarty and Jurisich voted YES; Commissioner Guey voted NO; Commissioner Cognevich ABSTAINED; Commissioner LaFrance was ABSENT.
The resolution directs the council secretary to certify and release the resolution and orders administrative steps to effectuate the termination, including payment to Mr. Lee of any accrued unused leave per Port policy, securing IT access and retrieving Port property (keys, key cards), and placing a copy of the resolution in Mr. Lee's personnel file.
The council recorded no further action beyond those administrative directives and set the termination effective on June 15, 2026.
