Colfax council confirms placing delinquent sewer and refuse charges on county tax roll

Following a public hearing, the Colfax City Council adopted resolutions to place delinquent sewer service charges and delinquent refuse collection fees on the Placer County secured tax roll.
Katrina Olsen, administrative services officer, explained that municipal code authorizes collection of delinquent utility and refuse charges on the secured tax roll and that separate written reports have been prepared describing parcels, owner names, addresses, the period of service, and amounts due. She said notices of the hearing were published in the Auburn Journal on May 27 and June 3, 2026.
Olsen reported $152,293.80 in delinquent sewer charges and $19,534.42 in delinquent refuse collection fees as of June 5. Council members asked several operational questions about administrative fees and interest; staff said past collections have recovered some amounts and that the county retains a portion of collections for administrative costs.
A motion to adopt the resolutions to place the delinquent accounts on the tax roll passed on a voice vote with no recorded opposition.
