Staff explained the available funding—roughly $1.2 million in remaining CDBG funds plus a city match of about $139,000, totaling about $1.37 million—and presented a prioritized street list. The project comprises downtown improvements and rehabilitation work on Depot Street, Maran Church and East Oak, with the contractor expected to begin this summer.
Council members noted that if bids come in lower than expected, leftover funds could be used to chip-seal or resurface an additional segment of North Main subject to CDBG approval. A motion to award the contract passed on a voice vote.
Council also celebrated the skate-park groundbreaking and said staff will pursue additional paving where feasible.
