Wolcott commission updates summer programs, affirms minutes and adjourns

The Commission for Individuals with Special Needs met Tuesday, May 12, 2026, in the Town Council Chambers in Wolcott and received updates on upcoming summer programming, staffing for the Rainbow Day Camp and logistical items before approving the April minutes and adjourning.

Chairperson Gloria Clair opened the meeting at 5:00 p.m. and recorded members present, including Vice Chairman Kelly DelGobbo. The commission unanimously approved the minutes of the April 14 regular meeting on a motion by commission member Laurie Glasser, seconded by Vice Chairman Kelly DelGobbo.

Recreation Coordinator Amanda Clair told the commission that bingo will be held Sunday, May 17, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the American Legion and that the group will meet behind St. Pius at 4 p.m. on May 25 for the Memorial Day parade; a trailer will be available for participants who prefer not to walk. She also announced a sock-hop dance scheduled for June 19 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Youth Center, with ice cream to be served.

On Rainbow Day Camp staffing, Clair said interviews were completed, three part-time employees accepted positions, and staff training is set for June 24 at the Arc of Southington. She reported that a bill passed in May clarifies that paid municipal youth camp staff age 21 or older are considered mandated reporters under Connecticut law and therefore are required to report suspected child abuse, neglect or other unsafe situations involving children.

Chairperson Clair reported that commission member Danielle Jarjura resigned and that power has been restored to the commission’s shed. The commission can send three campers to camp this year; Clair said David Glasser will attend Camp Harkness (which requires campers to be age 21) and staff are exploring placements for two others at the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp.

Clair also discussed an outing to a Bristol Blues game and outlined ticket-price options — $4 for admission only; $8 for admission plus a hot dog, chips and soda; and $20 for all-you-can-eat concessions — and said the group tentatively selected June 26 at 6:30 p.m., pending confirmation. The chair noted plans for a “Mayor for the Day” event and the secretary will confirm details; the commission agreed to serve Kit Kat bars rather than cake.

On accessibility, member Randy Clair asked whether the commission could obtain a portable toilet for the Special Games. The meeting recorded no correspondence, no old business and no new business. There was no executive session.
