Wolcott commission updates recreation programs, announces fundraiser and donation

Commission chair Gloria Clair reported that bowling met a 25-person cutoff, announced a Valentine Dance (Feb. 20), March Madness (Mar. 11), plans for bingo in April, and a Rainbow Day Camp fundraiser at Tap and Barrel on Feb. 23; the Lion's Club donated $1,000.
At the Feb. 10 Wolcott Commission for the Handicapped meeting, Chairperson Gloria Clair provided the Recreation Coordinator's report with updates on ongoing programs, upcoming events and a local fundraiser.
Ms. Clair said bowling "is going well; they made the 25-bowler cut off in the last two weeks," adding that a session was canceled the prior week due to weather and that group-home vans are restricted when it snows. She announced the Bowling Banquet is scheduled for March 28 at noon at the Youth Center and that trophies have been ordered.
The commission heard that the Winter Ball went well, and Ms. Clair thanked volunteers. A Valentine Dance is planned for Friday, Feb. 20, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Youth Center with a $5 entry fee, light refreshments, chocolate-making activities, cupcake decorating and a photo booth. "March Madness" will take place at the Wolcott High School gym on March 11 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Ms. Clair said she is hoping to schedule bingo in April but that a date has not yet been set.
Ms. Clair announced a fundraiser for Rainbow Day Camp at Tap and Barrel on Feb. 23 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.; she said 10% of all sales that evening will go to Rainbow Day Camp if diners tell the server they are there for the fundraiser. The commission plans a 50/50 raffle and asked members to donate items for the raffle if they wish.
In other business, Chairperson Clair reported the commission received a $1,000 check from the Lion's Club and that she sent a condolence card on behalf of the commission after the death of the father of members Danielle and Matthew. She also noted the town received a duplicate invoice from Farms on Wheels and said she planned to call the vendor, and she reported outreach to Mr. Gubitosi about recruiting volunteers for Special Games.
The meeting record shows the commission sent thank-you notes to local Lion Clubs and the Community Service Club and that there were no items under Accessibility, Old Business, New Business, or Executive Session. The regular meeting adjourned at 5:25 p.m.
