Consultants from Site Logic updated the Belle Vernon Area SD board during the district’s June 16 work session on the current Giza gym renovation, reporting steady progress and no major schedule concerns.
Jim Decker of Site Logic told the board the bleacher demolition and removal of wood paneling above the top row are complete, that “the walls and ceilings are primed and painted” and that a walkthrough with the district was scheduled the next morning to identify any remaining touch-ups. He also said restroom demolition is finished and new framing is underway and that gym lighting is “nearly complete.”
Decker said the next steps in the gym are floor sanding and equipment coordination: “the new scoreboard’s actually larger…we’ll be coordinating that installation,” he said. On the building systems timeline, Decker said the replacement chiller is expected by the end of the month and that the installation and commissioning should be completed before school starts.
Board members asked for an estimate of installation time; Decker replied it would take “a couple weeks” and that commissioning/startup would be conducted so the system is functional before occupancy. The project team also showed photos of the boiler room piping and demoed restrooms to give members a visual sense of the work completed and remaining.
The update closed with no immediate schedule risks identified. The district will perform the scheduled walkthrough and verify punch-list items; the team said they would coordinate the scoreboard installation and chiller commissioning with district staff prior to school reopening.
