The Fairport Harbor Village Council voted to approve three emergency appointment resolutions and formally swore in the new firefighters during its June meeting.
Council adopted Resolution 2026-58 appointing Dominic R. Gonzalez as a full-time firefighter for the village, declared an emergency, and administered the oath of office. Gonzalez repeated the oath: “I, Dominic Gonzalez, do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States, the Constitution of the State of Ohio and the municipal code of the Village of Fairport Harbor… and that I will faithfully and impartially discharge the duties of the office of which I am about to enter.” Council members then congratulated him.
The council also adopted Resolution 2026-59 to appoint Nicholas Orlando as Firefighter Three and Resolution 2026-60 to appoint Edward Joe Klene as a firefighter trainee, each declared an emergency and approved by voice vote. After the ceremonies the mayor invited attendees to celebrate with the new appointees.
The actions were taken by voice roll call during the meeting; votes were recorded in the transcript as affirmative for the adopted resolutions. No amendments or conditions were attached to the appointments.
The council’s swearing-in restores staffing capacity for the village’s fire department; the meeting packet and vote record were provided to councilors in advance. The council moved on to other business after inviting the new firefighters and attendees to a brief celebration.
