Council schedules LAPD workshop, will send DEED withdrawal letter; proclamation set for local care center

The council set a May 11 workshop on Lakes Area Police Department facilities, will withdraw its DEED public infrastructure grant application because a property sale is proceeding, and agreed to present a proclamation for Ecumen Point Pleasant Heights' 40th anniversary on May 14.
At the April 28 meeting Mayor Jeremy Dresel said the city received a request from Ecumen Point Pleasant Heights for a proclamation recognizing its 40th anniversary; the council agreed that Mayor Dresel will present the proclamation on May 14.
Council members also scheduled a workshop to discuss the Lakes Area Police Department building and related issues for Monday, May 11 at 5:30 p.m. to review options and gather more information.
City Administrator John Pechman reported the city intends to withdraw its Business Development Public Infrastructure grant application from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) because a property sale to Kendall Howard is moving forward. A draft withdrawal letter will be provided to the Economic Development Authority (EDA) which owns the property; council suggested including a brief explanation for clarity.
Staff will finalize the withdrawal letter and coordinate proclamation logistics and workshop scheduling.
