The students cited surveys and conversations with administrators and community experts as part of their research.
"Our civics action project was assessment policy review," student Evie Scoville said, explaining the group's concern about test overload and their calendar proposal. Students said teachers and administrators had reviewed their proposals and provided feedback; one project team said 100% of surveyed teachers indicated willingness to use a shared document to coordinate assessments.
The committee also presented retirement recognition to longtime staff including Kathy Joyce (grade‑level teacher since 2011) and Paul Dunovan (special‑education staff since 1997), along with other paraprofessionals and counselors. Joyce and Dunovan each spoke briefly to thank colleagues.
The committee invited students to return for the district’s civics showcase later in the week and applauded their state‑house representation.
