Chisago City council accepts first reading to allow 8 a.m. Sunday liquor service

Pechman told the council that most local establishments do not plan to open earlier than 10 a.m. on a routine basis but seek the flexibility to serve alcohol at 8 a.m. for special events such as early international sporting events. The council discussed local flexibility and compliance considerations and accepted the item as the first reading. Mayor Jeremy Dresel asked for objections; hearing none, staff was directed to schedule the required public hearing for the May council meeting.
Council members noted the change is intended to align the city with state statute and give business owners an option for limited early service rather than mandate earlier hours.
