The Milton Selectboard on June 15 approved the town’s Fiscal Year 2027 Water Fund and Wastewater Fund budgets and modest usage-rate increases to address higher wholesale and operating costs.
Finance Director Amber N. Baker presented the enterprise budgets: the Water Fund is set at $1,750,091 and the Wastewater Fund at $1,586,499. To cover rising costs from the Champlain Water District and operational expenses while maintaining existing base rates, the board approved an increase in usage rates. The Water Fund usage rate rises by $0.24 per 1,000 gallons to $4.64 per 1,000 gallons (base unit/quarter remains $39.95). The Wastewater Fund usage rate rises by $0.16 per 1,000 gallons to $5.50 per 1,000 gallons (base unit/quarter remains $49.17). Both changes are effective July 1, 2026.
Leland Morgan moved to approve the Water Fund budget and rate change; Betsy Paret seconded. The motion passed unanimously. The board then approved the Wastewater Fund budget and rate change on a unanimous vote.
The actions carried no recorded dissent and were presented as necessary to maintain service levels in the face of higher external charges and operating needs. The board did not modify the base (unit) quarter charges for either fund. The approved budgets and new usage rates will appear in the town’s FY2027 billing and budget documents.
The meeting minutes record the motions and unanimous approvals; residents seeking detailed line-item budget information are directed to the Town’s published FY2027 enterprise fund documents.
