Cassandra Hanan, Vernon County administrative coordinator, reported on July 10 that the opioid prevention fund balance is $334,698.58 and that the figure is unchanged from the previous month. Hanan noted that the amount does not include interest calculations and that the committee has not received reimbursement requests to date.
During member sharing, committee members discussed promotional outreach and harm-reduction measures. Martha Olson asked whether Sheriff Roy Torgerson and Dr. Duane Koons planned to appear on local news to promote the group’s initiatives; both agreed and Sheriff Torgerson offered to assist in arranging media outreach. Dr. Martha Karlstad said Dr. Devitt supports medication lock boxes and is pursuing distribution of fentanyl testing strips through clinics.
Amy Kleiber, Vernon County health officer, said she would follow up with the Family and Children’s Center about the status of a vending machine referenced by the committee. The group scheduled its next meeting for Sept. 11, 2024, and adjourned at 3:25 p.m.; formal motions to approve the June minutes and to adjourn were moved by Dr. Karlstad and seconded by Dr. Koons and recorded as passed unanimously.
