City engineer Matt Johnson updated the council on several infrastructure projects and secured approval for near‑term contracting and payment actions.
On the Kaplan sewer project phase two (a 270‑calendar‑day contract with October completion projected), Johnson reported that the contractor completed concrete sewer-line replacements and point repairs and is finishing pump‑station work pending delivery of long‑lead materials. The council approved partial payment estimate number three to the contractor for $174,486 after a motion by Councilman Garrett and a second by Councilman Guidry.
Johnson briefed council on the street improvements project (phase 2B), reporting that the original contract scope is complete and the contractor is working on drainage along Mount Street and related sidewalk replacement. He reiterated that final work is weather dependent.
On the Cushing Avenue revitalization project the survey crew completed field work and staff recommended authorizing the mayor to execute an engineering contract to begin design work. The council moved, seconded and carried the authorization and asked for monthly status updates on the project in future council meetings.
What happens next: the contractor will receive the approved payment estimate; the city will execute the engineering contract for Cushing Avenue and schedule monthly updates for council review.
(Reporting note: the payment amount and project completion dates are taken from the engineer's presentation to the council.)
