Representatives from Newkirk Novak updated the Smithville R-II board on bond-funded construction work at the high school and middle school. Presenters said brickwork for the addition and steel for a canopy are in place, framing and roofing are under way, and drywall and interior finishes will begin imminently. The presenters noted wide door openings to meet accessibility standards and that interior classroom renovation work will accelerate once summer work continues.
On the middle school, the presenters said locker rooms and the music room show near-complete finishes, floor and paint work is done in several areas, and library and restroom demo and framing are progressing. For athletics, district staff reported that turf crews completed work on the softball field and that the field is ready for play pending minimal equipment and touch-up items; the baseball field infield/turf work is likewise substantially complete. The concession-stand slab has been poured and framing is scheduled to begin the following week.
Josh Cowell (Newkirk Novak) summarized the progress and gratitude to technology and facilities staff for enabling demolition and infrastructure moves needed for the work. The construction team said the schedule remains on track for visible progress in the coming month as finishing trades begin.
