Town Manager Vic Hodgkins told the Mechanic Falls Town Council on May 4 that two nominating papers were returned to the Town Office on April 10: the Sanitary District Trustees filing met the requirements and will place Scott Penney on the June ballot, while the Town Council filing did not meet requirements, producing two write-in lines for the June 9 election.
Hodgkins said he plans to hire movers and a contractor to repaint and recarpet the municipal building’s second floor by the fall; he also said movers will transport the vintage safe to the Transfer Station on Sunday, May 17. Hodgkins told council he would present a carpet quote to the council during the meeting; the council later accepted a $20,410 bid from Royal Flooring Co. to replace second-floor carpet and install new porcelain tile in the bathroom.
Councilor Mary Martin reported that the RSU #16 budget was approved on May 6 and reminded residents that the district budget meeting is scheduled for Thursday, May 21 at 6:00 p.m. Martin also said the Community Days Committee will meet Tuesday, May 19 at 6:00 p.m. in Council Chambers.
