Mechanic Falls council approves routine minutes, accepts $2,995 grant and appoints temporary town clerk

The Mechanic Falls Town Council on June 1, 2026, approved a series of routine administrative items, accepted a $2,995 grant for the Water Department and appointed a temporary town clerk.
Council Chair Darrell Young called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. and led the Pledge of Allegiance. The council then approved minutes from April 30 and May 4. Councilor Darrell Young moved to accept the April 30 minutes; Councilor Walter Berry seconded. The council approved that motion 4-0 with Councilor Raymond Lavoie abstaining. The May 4 minutes were approved 5-0 after a separate motion by Councilor Raymond Lavoie and a second from Councilor Mary Martin.
The body accepted monthly department reports unanimously. Town Manager Vic Hodgkins provided updates on local projects including Fix 108, reminded residents of the June 9 election, noted PSAP matters, and thanked Raymond Lavoie and Derek Thebarge for their service as this was their last meeting.
In new business the council voted unanimously on several items: closing the Town Clerk’s window at noon on June 30 for year-end work; setting the organizational meeting for Monday, June 15 at 6:00 p.m.; approving a library memorandum of understanding with Minot; and accepting and approving the Mid-Maine Waste agreement. Councilors handled each item by motion and voice vote with all recorded votes passing 5-0 unless otherwise noted.
The council also accepted a $2,995 MMA Risk Grant designated for the Water Department after a motion by Councilor Darrell Young and a second from Councilor Walter Berry. Finally, the council appointed Janice Ferri as Temporary Town Clerk by unanimous vote.
