Mechanic Falls council approves liquor license renewal, $20,410 flooring contract and land-use overlay

Mechanic Falls Town Council voted unanimously on multiple routine agenda items at its May 4 meeting, approving a liquor license renewal, a municipal flooring contract and a land-use overlay among other motions.
Councilor Raymond Lavoie moved to renew the Silver Spur’s liquor license after the establishment confirmed payment of its annual fee; Councilor Walter Berry seconded and the motion passed, 5-0. Council also approved the April 6 meeting minutes and accepted the monthly department reports by unanimous votes earlier in the meeting.
On facilities work, Councilor Walter Berry moved to accept Royal Flooring Co.’s bid of $20,410 to replace second-floor carpeting and to remove and install new porcelain tile in the bathroom; Councilor Raymond Lavoie seconded and the motion passed, 5-0. The Town Manager had said he would present a carpeting quote as part of planned repainting and recarpeting of the municipal building’s second floor to be completed by the fall.
The council approved and signed the Land Use Ordinance Overlay for LD 1829 after the joint Planning Board/Council public hearings noted on the agenda. Councilor Darrell Young moved the approval; Councilor Walter Berry seconded and the motion passed, 5-0.
Other formal actions included acceptance of a $750 Maine Forestry Grant (moved by Councilor Young, seconded by Councilor Lavoie); approval and signing of RSU #16 budget warrants as written (moved by Councilor Lavoie, seconded by Councilor Martin); and a motion to close the Town Clerk’s window on Election Day, Tuesday, June 9 (moved by Councilor Lavoie, seconded by Councilor Martin). All motions recorded in the minutes carried unanimously, 5-0.
The council later moved into executive session at 6:42 p.m. under 1 MSRA 405(6)(E) for consultations with legal counsel and returned to open session at 7:13 p.m.; the minutes record no formal action taken during that executive session. The meeting adjourned at 7:13 p.m.
