Eureka Springs — At the start of the March 9 meeting, council heard two public comments that raised infrastructure and governance concerns: a resident asked the city to repair Fuller Street before an exposed utility pipe is further undermined by rain, and a former hospital employee urged the council to pursue a state investigation into alleged wrongdoing at the local hospital.
Matthew Carroll, who said he has lived in Eureka Springs since last August, presented photographs of Fuller Street and described severe erosion from rain events that he said has exposed a pipe near King's Highway. "It was nowhere near that exposed in August of last year," Carroll said, pressing the council to inspect and prioritize repairs to avoid a larger failure.
Later, Richard Webb, a former Eureka Springs Hospital employee, told the council he and his wife and other workers were "wronged" and alleged that hospital officials had ignored state and federal labor laws and HIPAA requirements. Webb named specific former and current hospital officials and called for an official state investigation into the matter.
Council acknowledged both comments; Public Works staff later referenced Fuller Street during the infrastructure update and said crews would inspect the road and consider paving options after further cost analysis. On the hospital matter, council members did not act but the comment was entered into the record.
What happens next: Public Works will inspect Fuller Street and report back on scope and cost at a future meeting; the hospital allegation remains a public comment record for any follow-up the council or state regulators choose to pursue.
