The Cortland City Council voted June 15 to approve several ordinances and a resolution affecting public safety, downtown development and city operations.
Councilors approved ordinance O-17-26, a third-and-final reading authorizing the fire chief to renew the fire- and EMS-reporting software contract with ESO Solutions, Inc. The motion carried on roll call.
The council also approved O-18-26, authorizing the mayor to sign a contract with Site Prep Services LLC to construct an outdoor event space at 181 West Main Street. The president of council described the project as a way to maximize use of a county-owned building and to support downtown revitalization.
On equipment, the body approved O-19-26, an emergency measure permitting the police department to purchase a Ford Police Interceptor SUV and patrol accessories from Statewide Ford Lincoln Mercury. The police chief explained the emergency was requested because the vendor quote was time-limited and ordering was already behind schedule; council approved both the emergency declaration and the ordinance.
Council approved O-20-26, a second-reading emergency measure that creates the interim assistant fire chief position and sets salary and benefits; the council approved the emergency declaration and the ordinance on roll call.
In new business, council adopted resolution R-31-26 expressing the city’s support for relocating the Trumbull County 911 Dispatch Center to the Trumbull County Combined Health District building in downtown Cortland. The president of council said the move would fully utilize a county-owned building, provide financial benefits for shared taxpayers and aid downtown economic development.
Votes at a glance (as recorded in meeting roll calls): - O-17-26 (ESO Solutions contract): motion moved and seconded; roll call recorded affirmative votes from the members called (see meeting record for individual answers). - O-18-26 (Site Prep Services LLC, 181 West Main): moved, seconded and adopted by roll call. - O-19-26 (Police SUV and accessories; emergency): emergency motion carried; ordinance adopted by roll call. - O-20-26 (Interim assistant fire chief; emergency): emergency motion carried; ordinance adopted by roll call. - R-31-26 (support relocation of 911 dispatch): moved, seconded and adopted by roll call.
The meeting record shows routine procedural approvals earlier in the agenda, including approval of the June 1 minutes, payment of electric and gas bills totaling $2,457.90 (with recorded abstentions), approval of other bills totaling $139,931.02, and acceptance of the May 31 bank reconciliation.
Next steps: adopted ordinances take effect according to local procedures; the resolution expresses council support for the 911 relocation and does not itself move county action forward. The council adjourned at the close of the meeting.
