Board takes first reading on student device policy and approves supplemental materials

A motion to approve the first reading was made by Miss Clark and seconded by Miss Ariola; the motion carried by voice vote. Trustees were advised that the policy is intended to provide a consistent district framework while allowing principals to adapt site procedures as needed.
Separately, the board reviewed and approved the district's list of supplemental instructional materials, which staff said are already in use across sites and vetted by the instructional director. Staff noted that adoption of a wholly new supplemental curriculum would require committee review and a formal adoption process.
The instructional director, Anna F. Manis, earlier described the district's professional-development plan, ELA curriculum adoption (Houghton Mifflin), a $23,000 professional-development support grant and districtwide training priorities including writing and science focus for the first semester.
