At its March 4 meeting the Buckeye Union School District Board approved several personnel and governance items designed to maintain staffing flexibility and align district policies with state guidance.
Assistant Superintendent Jacqueline McHaney presented a request for a 60%/40% job-share for two kindergarten teachers, Ms. Gray and Ms. Estenson, for the 2026'2027 school year; both teachers received the principal's recommendation and will maintain full-time status through approved leaves for the portions of their assignment they do not work. Trustees approved the job-share arrangement on a 4-0 vote.
McHaney also asked the Board to open the Golden Handshake early-retirement incentive window for eligible classified employees from May 1 through August 3, 2026. The incentive operates under the CSEA bargaining agreement and will be implemented only after CalPERS calculations demonstrate cost savings and the El Dorado County Office of Education completes its audit; trustees approved the proposal 4-0.
On governance matters, the Board approved second-reading revisions to Buckeye Union Board Policies (March/November 2025 CSBA updates) with no objections. Separately, the Board heard a first reading of January 2026 CSBA policy updates that include language on interactions with federal immigration enforcement. Some trustees expressed concern that portions of the draft could place staff in difficult positions; Ms. McHaney said the language reflects state law and that site administrators would contact the District office for direction in such incidents. The Board continued that first-reading item for additional review at the March 18 meeting.
Board members also approved a nomination for the California School Boards Association Delegate Assembly (Subregion 6-C) to re-nominate Misty DiVittorio, and the consent agenda containing routine items including financial and facilities reports was approved. All motions noted above passed by a 4-0 vote.
