The Buckeye Union School District Board on March 4 authorized staff to post bidding documents for Phase 2 of a new kindergarten playground at Buckeye Elementary School, a project intended to replace failing concrete, regrade the play area, and correct long-standing drainage and safety problems.
Director of Facilities Brian McCahon told trustees the project will remove raised concrete sections that cause water pooling and icy conditions in winter, regrade the surface to improve drainage and accessibility, and complete remaining construction work after EDCOE-funded design and structures. The district estimated the project cost at about $175,000 to $200,000. The bid opening is scheduled for March 31, with the contract expected to return to the Board for award at the April 8 meeting.
Board members asked questions about cost and accessibility improvements and expressed support for addressing the safety and drainage issues in the kindergarten play area. The motion to authorize posting of bidding documents passed 4-0.
