Trustees approve district purchases and consider "Passing Patterson" career modules for middle school

Mr. Lopez said the modules include stations such as robotics, nursing, personal finance and engineering; he said modules will be chosen to align where possible with the district's existing or planned CTE pathways.
Board members raised concerns about alignment with high-school programs and the district's capacity to sustain pathways. Ms. Jamison and others noted that exposing eighth graders to pathways the district does not offer at the high school could create unmet expectations unless follow-up options are secured. Mr. Lopez said the course is exploratory and that the team will prioritize modules that align to currently offered or planned high-school opportunities, but that exposure to other career options can still be valuable.
The board moved and approved the combined purchases (procurement motion recorded and passed 6–0). Administration said federal funds (Title III and Title IV) will cover some items listed in the packet, and that AP testing fees and counseling licenses were included in the request.
