"We will be getting our nonprofit number as of April," J. Ala told the board, adding that licensed professionals would teach the trade apprenticeships after appropriate background checks.
Why it matters: proponents said the center is aimed at students in roughly grades 9–12 and would provide alternatives for youth who are struggling in traditional schooling, offering job skills and a place for community activities. J. Ala said the project would serve surrounding neighborhoods including Orange Grove and Yuma and described the plan as "a wonderful facility that's going to benefit the surrounding locations."
