City staff presented a draft intergovernmental airport agreement on June 15 that changes how the county and city fund airport operations and adjusts the makeup of the airport commission. The draft, staff said, has been reviewed by both the county attorney and the city attorney.
Mr. Broyles told the council the agreement “includes changes to the structure of the funding from each government entity to the airport, and also how the airport commission, the makeup of the airport commission, and it's structured over time.” Council members thanked staff and county partners, and acknowledged the agreement aims to make funding more equitable across jurisdictions.
Council members discussed scheduling and requested a July 2026 timeline to accommodate budget sequencing; the council conducted the first reading and set a public hearing at the July 6 meeting to allow public comment and final consideration before adoption.
Staff said they will present a proposed 2027 airport budget in July and asked the council for flexibility on exact dates for final budget effects as the county and commission finalize timelines.
