Pingree Grove approves five-year Axon body-camera and Taser contract

The Pingree Grove Village Board on June 15 approved a five-year contract with Axon Enterprise for body-worn cameras, in-car camera systems, cloud-based evidence management and Taser 10 equipment in an amount not to exceed $399,819.92.
Chris (presenting staff) told trustees the police department evaluated three vendors and chose Axon for its broad integration with the Kane County State's Attorney's Office, neighboring agencies and regional evidence systems. Staff noted the system offers AI-assisted on-scene language translation to help officers communicate with non-English speakers.
Trustees asked whether any current features would be lost and were told the Axon solution provides additional translation and broader interoperability than the village’s prior GTEC cameras, which the chief said are being phased out after vendor restructuring. Chief Harris added the department sees the purchase as a long-term upgrade to match county and regional platforms.
The board voted to approve the contract on roll call. Staff said the purchase and implementation will proceed under the police department’s oversight with vendor training and system integration as next steps.
