Crawford approves July 4 parade route and partial Chamber membership; residents raise parking, trash concerns

The Crawford City Council on May 26 approved a request from the Chamber of Commerce to close streets for the July 4 parade and to modify parking in the park so parking would occur only on the fire-lane side for safety. Council Member Brian Frahm moved to approve the parade route closure; Council Member Dianne Gaston seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
At the same meeting the council agreed to purchase a Chamber of Commerce membership. Council Member Brian Frahm offered to donate $138.52 toward the fee and asked the City to cover the remaining $61.48; Gaston seconded the motion. The council voted 3-0 to accept that arrangement.
A Chamber representative told the council the parade route would be the same as last year and asked the City to limit parking in the park and provide signage and barriers so vehicles do not ignore the fire lane. The minutes record that the request rests on safety concerns about vehicles blocking the fire lane during park activities.
During public comment, Rayleen Suchor urged better communication between the City and the Planning Commission and the Villa Board. Brooke Knode said Swann trash cans are frequently full and that twice-weekly pickup "doesn't seem to be enough," a concern the council did not resolve at the meeting.
Council President Christopher Dean and council members approved the route, membership purchase and adjourned the meeting at 7:10 p.m. The minutes do not record follow-up assignments or a revised trash-collection schedule.
