Barry County commissioners approve $117,342 in claims, appoint mental health board member and authorize IT job search

The Barry County Board of Commissioners on June 25, 2024 approved a series of routine and personnel actions, including payment of $117,342.48 in claims and the county's Annual Financial Report for the year ended Dec. 31, 2023.
Commissioners voted unanimously, with Mark Doster, Mike Callton, Catherine Getty, Jon Smelker, David Jackson, David Hatfield and Bob Teunessen recorded as present and Bruce Campbell absent. The motion to approve the claims was moved by Commissioner David Hatfield and supported by Commissioner Catherine Getty. The motion to approve the Annual Financial Report was moved by Hatfield and supported by Jon Smelker.
The board also approved a set of consent items and agreements, including adoption of the standard form of agreement with Frederick Construction, Inc. for construction management services related to the new Barry County Commission on Aging facility and a professional services agreement with the Barry Conservation District to conduct a spongy moth egg mass survey from Oct. 1 to Oct. 31, 2024, in the amount of $15,000 to be paid from the General Fund.
In personnel business the board appointed Brenda Shinabarger-Howe to a partial term on the Barry County Community Mental Health Board (term began April 1, 2024 and expires March 31, 2027). The appointment was moved by Hatfield and supported by Mark Doster and was approved by roll call.
The board approved an updated Equalization Technician job description and reclassified the position to grade level 5 on the BCCEA pay scale (motion moved by Hatfield, supported by Getty). It also authorized the Director of Information Technology to conduct a job search for a Deputy IT/GIS Director (Department Head Grade 14) and granted flexibility to deviate from current policies regarding entrance salary rate and vacation leave if needed (motion moved by Hatfield, supported by Smelker).
All formal actions taken at the meeting were recorded by roll call and carried by the members present. The session adjourned at 9:55 a.m.
