APS sets State of the District for Aug. 31 with panel including CNM, UNM representatives

The Albuquerque Public Schools Community Engagement Committee on June 16 confirmed Monday, Aug. 31 as the date for the district’s State of the District event and agreed on an early-evening format to enable watch parties in schools.
Dr. Kristy Albright, Community Engagement and Events Coordinator, told members that either Aug. 24 or Aug. 31 were available but that Aug. 31 offered a better opportunity to invite attendees and coordinate watch parties. "So, is the state of the district will be on Monday, August 31st from 3:30 to 5:30," the committee chair confirmed during the meeting.
Superintendent Dr. Duran Blakey said the event will feature a panel discussion including the president of Central New Mexico Community College (CNM), the dean of the UNM College of Education and a fireside-style conversation with himself about the education landscape and district priorities. The district plans watch parties and live streaming so schools can host remote viewing and students may attend.
Board members discussed logistics, suggested start times timed to school schedules, and identified Burnet Middle School as the planned site for the Aug. 31 event. Staff will continue work on program details, confirmed speakers and promotion in the coming weeks.
Next steps: finalize panelists and performance elements, develop and distribute a save-the-date and flyer, and coordinate invitations to educators, students and community stakeholders.
